Dear Friends,
I'm at an "Immunity to Change" workshop in Boston and couldn't help but think of you all as I sat through our first day together. Kegan and Lahey have developed a methodology to overcome resistance to chance which focuses on surfacing "hidden commitments" and assumptions that keep us from pursuing goals that are important to us. Here is a short link to an EdX virtual course and there are also other videos on YouTube explaining the methodology. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FFYnVmGu9ZI&list=PLRAI_WnbL7Z3AS4D7g5qjvLsZg90pObqp&index=2
It's not particularly easy to use the four-column exercise on your own but I think that if you read the HBR article, "The Real Reason People Won't Change" and watch Kegan's 14 minute YouTube lecture, with examples, it might be enough to create some ah-ha moments for you in why you can't move from intention to behavior change. And it can be used in any area of your life, personal and professional.
If you are interested in this and want to learn more, just contact me directly and I'm happy to let you know what I know. I'm a "newbie" at this but I have seen my colleagues use it in a number of leadership development programs and it is very powerful.
Warm wishes,
Schon
